Proverbs 6:6:
“Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise.”
Solomon sends the lazy person to nature school. An ant has no boss standing over it, no manager checking in … and yet it works, gathering in summer what it will need in harvest. There’s a quiet dignity in the ant’s self-motivated diligence that many of us, with all our reminders and planners, still lack.
Laziness in Proverbs isn’t just about avoiding chores; it’s about avoiding the discomfort of doing hard things before they’re urgent. What’s the “ant work” in your life right now …. the unglamorous, unsupervised task you keep postponing? Wisdom often looks like doing it today.
Prayer: Lord, give me the quiet discipline of the ant …. working faithfully even when no one is watching. Amen.
