Proverbs 7:2:
“Keep my commandments, and live; and my law as the apple of thine eye.”
“The apple of thine eye” refers to the pupil …. the most sensitive, most protected part of the body. We flinch instinctively if anything comes near our eyes. Solomon says: treat God’s instruction with that same instinct of protection. Don’t let it get touched, diluted, or damaged by neglect.
Chapter 7 goes on to describe a young man seduced step by step because he had no such guard in place. Instruction wasn’t close to him; it wasn’t precious to him. Protection starts long before temptation arrives … it starts with what you treasure on an ordinary Tuesday.
Prayer: God, help me treasure Your Word the way I’d protect my own eyes ….fiercely, instinctively, before trouble ever comes. Amen.
