“Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid or terrified… for the Lord your God goes with you.” Moses spoke these words to a nation about to face an unknown future. They were leaving behind everything familiar and entering territory filled with real danger, and yet the instruction was not to eliminate fear but to move forward anyway.
Courage here is not the absence of fear but the presence of companionship. That distinction matters. Bravery is often misunderstood as fearlessness, when in reality it is usually a decision made in spite of fear, supported by the knowledge that we are not facing the unknown completely alone.
We rarely walk into anything truly alone. Even when a situation feels isolating, this verse insists on a promise of accompaniment. Whatever mountain, transition, or fear stands ahead of us, the invitation is the same one given to a nomadic nation thousands of years ago: keep moving, because you are not moving by yourself.
