Matthew 11:28 : “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”
Three words carry the entire weight of this verse: Come. All. Rest.
Come …. not perform, not qualify, not clean yourself up first. The direction is simple and the starting point is wherever you are standing right now.
All …not some. Not the ones who have it together. Not the ones whose sin is socially acceptable. All who labour. All who are heavy laden. The exhausted, the overwhelmed, the ones who have been carrying something so long they have forgotten what it felt like to put it down.
Rest …. not advice, not a program, not a five-step strategy. Rest. The kind the soul has been searching for in productivity and busyness and noise and has never quite found there.
Jesus does not say He will teach them how to carry the burden more efficiently. He says He will give them rest. The burden changes in His hands. The yoke He offers fits differently ….not because life becomes easy but because you are no longer carrying it alone.
You do not have to earn your way to this rest. You only have to come.
