Proverbs 12:15:
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.”
The fool’s defining trait isn’t stupidity … it’s certainty. He can’t imagine he’s wrong, so he never asks. The wise person, by contrast, actively listens for counsel, which requires humility: an admission that other perspectives might see something you can’t.
Who are the counselors in your life right now …people who will tell you the truth, not just what you want to hear? If you can’t name any, that’s worth addressing before you need them in a crisis.
Prayer: Lord, save me from being right in my own eyes. Give me humility to seek and hear wise counsel. Amen.
