The Root of All Praise

Proverbs 31:30:
“Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.”

The famous description of the excellent wife in Proverbs 31 doesn’t end by praising her appearance or charm … it ends by praising her reverence for God. Everything else in the chapter (her diligence, generosity, strength, wisdom) flows from that one root: she fears the Lord.
This closing verse of the whole book brings us right back to where we started, in chapter 1: the fear of the Lord. Thirty-one chapters later, the foundation hasn’t changed. Whatever you’re building your life on today …. appearance, achievement, approval … let it rest, finally, on that same unshakable foundation.

Prayer: Lord, let the fear of You be the root of everything praiseworthy in my life. Bring me back, always, to this foundation. Amen.
